The cultural landscape of Bengaluru has just gotten a vibrant boost with the return of the iconic Cubbon Park Flower Show after almost seven years. Celebrated as a symbolic revival of public art, horticulture, and community culture in one of the most treasured green lungs of Bengaluru, this flower show has been held only four times in the 155-year history of the park.

This year’s event, organized by the Horticulture Department and supported by various local cultural groups, will combine its more traditional botanical exhibits with immersive floral art and participatory activities for families. The return of this flower show has generated excitement among the residents, flower enthusiasts, and environmental activists as they look at it as another opportunity to encourage public engagement with urban nature in this city.

Historic Venue with a Rare Tradition

Cubbon Park, spread over more than 300 acres in the heart of Bengaluru, has long been synonymous with heritage, greenery, and community life. Unlike the frequent flower shows in Lalbagh, Cubbon Park’s version has been rare, largely reserved for special commemorative occasions.

The understated charm and more open, natural aesthetic not seen in its Lalbagh counterpart made for a widely appreciated show in 2018. From 2018 onwards, the various administrative, budgetary, and urban-planning constraints contributed to the long pause. Its revival in 2025 again underscores a promise toward a blend of culture with conservation.

Heritage-Inspired Floral Displays

This year’s 11-day show brings back old-world charm to Cubbon Park through floral installations inspired by Karnataka’s architectural and cultural heritage.

A floral chariot in Hampi style, prepared with thousands of chrysanthemums and marigolds, is the centrepiece, symbolizing resilience and the artistic richness of the Vijayanagara Empire. Other installations include a miniature Mysore Palace made of roses and a tribute to the late Queen’s Statue, a key landmark within the park.

Professionally curated bonsai collections, orchid galleries, and rare plant species from the Western Ghats add an educational dimension. Several exhibit zones are dedicated to native flora, raising awareness about ecological preservation at a time when Bengaluru’s green cover is rapidly shrinking.

Affordable & Accessible for All

One of the most appreciated aspects of the Cubbon Park Flower Show is its affordability. Entry fees have been kept minimal-₹30 for adults and ₹10 for children-to ensure the event remains inclusive and family-friendly.

Local artisans’ stalls, traditional snacks, children’s activities, and cultural performances add to the festive mood.

For parents and educators, the show is a hands-on learning experience. There are interactive workshops on home gardening, composting, balcony farming, and sustainable landscaping throughout the event, with school groups and hobby gardeners in attendance.

A Cultural Breath Amidst Urban Pressures

While Bengaluru’s urban life has been under immense stress owing to traffic congestion, environmental degradation, and rapid growth, events such as Cubbon Park Flower Show offer a respite to the public. They reconnect the residents with the ecological heritage of the city and remind them about the importance of public green open spaces.

Environmentalists also hope the flower show’s popularity will result in more support for long-term conservation initiatives such as increasing native tree plantations within the park, strengthening heritage preservation, and reducing encroachments and commercial pressure on surrounding areas.

Boost to Local Tourism and Community Engagement

It is also expected to attract tourists and bring more revenues to the local economy, mainly in the vicinity areas like MG Road, Brigade Road, and Church Street. The café owners, street vendors, and tour guides experience higher footfall during these events, which rejuvenates the local economy.

Community groups have also welcomed the revival of the show by announcing plans to hold a series of photowalks, nature trails, and sketching sessions during the 11-day event. The city’s thriving photography community sees it as an ideal setting for creative shoots.

A Promising Future of Cultural Events in the City With the return of the Cubbon Park Flower Show, civic priorities have again shifted to balance development with culture, nature, and public well-being. As Bengaluru grows into one of the most important global tech and innovation hubs, the need to protect its heritage spaces and provide opportunities for cultural participation is increasingly important. If the enthusiastic public turnout is any indication, the city is more than ready for such rejuvenating experiences. For now, Cubbon Park is in full bloom-literally and metaphorically-welcoming residents to pause, breathe, and celebrate the beauty of nature amidst the city’s relentless pace.
